Interact- a movement and an organisation

Interact, which is the international name of Evangeliska Frikyrkan, is a Swedish church and mission movement, with over 300 churches and about 31 000 members. The movement began during the second half of the 19th century, and at first consisted of three organisations the Örebro Mission, the Free Baptist Union and the Holiness Union.In 1997, these associations merged to become Interact. The essence of the movement is summarised in the vision: “Growing churches bring the whole gospel to the whole person throughout the whole world.”

The mission gives breath of life to the movement

The mission of the Church is extensive. It is manifest through each member of each congregation in his or her home area and place of work. And it is manifest through mission work to distant peoples, the International Mission, which is coordinated, planned and implemented by the Interact organisation. The mission work is conducted in over 200 projects in 44 countries by cooperation partners and some 80 colleagues sent out from Sweden.

Joint pastoral training takes shape

Within Interact, education, Bible study and discipleship have always been considered important, both for the individual and for church life. Within the movement there are several schools. The schools which are legally within the organisation of Interact are the Örebro Theological Seminary and the Örebro Folk High School, which also has activities at the Götabro Training and Conference Centre.

A vision of growing churches

The movement consists of the churches and their members. The church program assignment is intended to support the churches to enable them to grow in number, maturity and service. Leadership training, church development, church planting social service and action are some of the work areas.

How Interact is organised

The local churches of Interact have decided to cooperate so that together they can create conditions which enable the vision to become reality. The Congress, which is the movement's highest decision making organ1, resolved that the common programs shall be within international missions, training and church development. Common activities are directed by an organisation which has the same name as the movement, Interact.
